Booking Your Cover-Up

Step-by-step guidance for planning and scheduling your cover-up tattoo.

Learn how to prepare, select imagery, and get results that last.

Why Planning Your Cover-Up Leads to Better Results

The key to a strong cover-up is focusing on what direction you want the new tattoo to take — not just covering what’s already there.

Being flexible with size and imagery gives us more room to create a design that truly works. When scheduling your consultation, provide a few ideas in the booking form—symbols, images, or themes you connect with.

We’ll use those as the foundation for a piece that hides the old tattoo and gives you a work of art you’ll be proud to show off.

How to Book Your Cover-Up

Booking is straightforward when you provide clear information. Following these steps ensures your consultation and session run smoothly:

  • Prepare your inspiration list

Bring a short list of imagery or motifs that resonate with you—floral elements and animals are a great place to start.

I’ll work with your ideas to design a cover-up design that fits and holds up over time.

Once you’ve made your list, submit it as your tattoo idea, and I’ll take it from there!

Being flexible with size and placement allows more options for a successful cover-up.

Be open to larger designs or adjustments for the best results.

  • Use my booking form to share it with me, including details like:

    • Body placement and size (in inches).

    • Style preferences (Japanese, Traditional, etc.)

    • Symbols, imagery, or themes you want included.

    • Reference images (screenshots, artwork, or photos).

Note: I do not copy other artists’ tattoos, but references help me understand your vision.

  • After describing your tattoo idea, upload:

    • Any photo references you have

    • Clear, well-lit photos of the tattoo you want to cover and the surrounding area

    Then submit your booking form.

Providing clear photos of your existing tattoo upfront minimizes back-and-forth and ensures the booking process starts efficiently.

  • After submitting your booking form, you’ll receive a link to schedule your in-person consultation.

    During your consultation, we’ll

    • Assess your existing tattoo(s)

    • Discuss your inspiration list and/or tattoo idea

    • Make a tracing of your tattoo to ensure your cover-up fits properly

After all the details are sorted out, we’ll take a deposit and book your appointment.

  • Designs are created using your provided references and our consultation.

Your design will be shown at the start of your appointment. We’ll review placement, size, and composition together.

Minor adjustments can be made after reviewing your design to make it perfect.

If major changes to the design are needed that require redrawing, the appointment will be rescheduled and a new deposit will be required.

Why Choose Wes Holland For Your Cover-Up Tattoo

I excel in crafting cover-up tattoos that help my clients replace old and unwanted tattoos with new works of art, along with a renewed sense of pride in their tattoo collection.

As one of the best cover-up tattoo artists in Atlanta, I encourage potential clients to embrace flexibility regarding the subject matter and size of their cover-up tattoo.

This open-minded approach can lead to stunning results that not only conceal the existing tattoo but elevate it into a captivating piece of art.

Before you schedule your consultation, take some time to create a list of imagery and motifs that resonate with you. Consider organic imagery such as snakes, koi, dragon, tigers, or floral elements.

These designs, images, and motifs not only provide a rich narrative but also work exceptionally well for cover-ups.

For example, the greens in the leaves of flowers are an excellent tool to cover an old tattoo, allowing you to place the flower on the blank un-tattooed skin nearby. The repetitive nature of scales on snakes, dragons, and fish are another great tool for successful coverups.

If you prefer Black and grey tattoos, using large shapes of black and dark grey is the best strategy to ensure the success of your cover-up. The most common being hairstyles from classic pin-up art, traditional girl heads, or portraits of loved ones — Including pets.

Designs like panthers, Black roses, or even space scenes full of colorful galaxies, Black holes, and stars lend themselves beautifully to cover-ups, as they can overpower and disguise the underlying tattoo effectively.

Schedule your consultation today and start the journey towards a replacing regret with a new work of art you’ll be proud to show off!
